Moving your home? Relocation Services from Dubai to Australia, Door to Door · Moving Services from Dubai and Abu Dhabi to Melbourne

Since the Strait of Hormuz closed to commercial shipping in February 2026, a Sydney-bound container goes by road to a port outside the strait, such as Khor Fakkan or Fujairah on the UAE’s east coast or Sohar in Oman, then usually tranships at Singapore for Port Botany. Routing and dates are confirmed at your Dubai survey, and your coordinator gives you the vessel name, the booking reference and the projected ETA once the sailing is booked. That is the level an Australian move runs on, backed by our 22 years’ experience.

Moves from the UAE to Australia tend to follow a familiar mix — a young family on a 189 skilled-migrant visa to Sydney’s inner west, a professional couple on employer sponsorship to Melbourne South Yarra, engineers heading for Perth, post-graduate professionals at a Brisbane hospital, and expat-returnees with permanent residency reopening a house on the Sunshine Coast.

Why move with Seemleius

Biosecurity handled, not feared

Australian biosecurity (DAFF) assesses every shipment and decides what to inspect. We pre-clean, photograph and document the items that draw attention — outdoor furniture, golf bags, BBQs, garden tools — at the Dubai pack, so any inspection is a checkpoint, not a hold.

Single coordinator for the whole corridor

One named coordinator from the UAE survey through the Singapore tranship to your Australian address. One coordinator owns the file; you are not handed off when the box leaves the UAE.

Pricing without surprises

Every quote itemises freight, biosecurity provisions, ABF clearance, port and quarantine fees, road delivery and packing. Where heat treatment or methyl bromide fumigation is likely, the quote shows it as a provision from the start.

How your move works

  1. Survey and brief

Survey or video walk-through in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah. Volume measured in cubic metres, biosecurity-sensitive items flagged, sea and air options put against your visa start date.

  2. Documentation before sail

B534 Unaccompanied Personal Effects Statement drafted with you in English, each item checked against the 12-month ownership rule, passport and visa pages collated, evidence that the shipment is linked to your move (a ticket or work contract) assembled. Pet and vehicle files opened in parallel where they apply.

  3. Treat, pack and dispatch

Outdoor goods and wooden items cleaned and treated at the UAE end. ISPM-15 stamped crates for any timber. Sea freight to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Fremantle or Adelaide, or air ex-DXB to SYD, MEL, BNE, PER or ADL.

  4. Clearance and delivery

ABF import declaration lodged by our destination partner, who attends any DAFF inspection on your behalf and arranges heat treatment or fumigation in country if required. Parking or access permits arranged where needed. The partner’s crew unpacks, reassembles and removes debris on the same visit.

The UAE–Australia corridor in detail

Sea and air routes

Sea freight leaves the departure port on services that tranship at Singapore before splitting to the Australian rotation. Sydney lands at Port Botany. Melbourne calls at the Port of Melbourne, Australia’s busiest container port. Brisbane handles the Queensland flow at the Port of Brisbane. Fremantle, serving Perth, is the shortest sea leg from the UAE. Adelaide’s Outer Harbor takes the South Australian volume on a longer routing. Sailing schedules are longer and less predictable than before, so routing and dates are confirmed at the survey. Air from DXB goes direct to SYD, MEL, BNE, PER and ADL.

DAFF biosecurity

Australia runs one of the strictest biosecurity regimes in the world. The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), which runs Australian biosecurity, assesses every shipment on arrival and decides what to inspect. Officers look for soil, seeds, plant material, untreated timber, food residue, animal hair and pest evidence. Routine triggers: outdoor furniture, BBQs, lawn mowers, garden tools, golf bags, bicycles, wicker, rattan, wooden items, and timber packaging without an ISPM-15 stamp. Where treatment is needed, options are heat treatment or methyl bromide fumigation; risk items can also be exported or destroyed, at the owner’s cost. We pre-clean and document attention items at the Dubai pack.

ABF and the Unaccompanied Personal Effects regime

Australian Border Force handles the import declaration. For a household move the working filing is Unaccompanied Personal Effects: furniture and household goods you have owned and used for 12 months before leaving for Australia clear free of duty and GST under the UPE concession, with no permanent-residency condition. The B534 Statement, signed by you, carries the entitlement. Items owned for less than 12 months, anything new in box, alcohol, tobacco, vehicles, commercial stock and any shipment booked after you arrive sit outside the relief. We walk the inventory with you so the file lands right first time at Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Fremantle or Adelaide.

Exclusions, vehicles, state access and pets

Biological-risk goods are the first filter — soil contamination, untreated seeds, certain wood species, ivory, animal-product items. Firearms need an import permit from the relevant state police service. A vehicle needs federal import approval before it ships and falls outside the household-goods concession; older vehicles may also need asbestos checks because of historical brake and gasket materials. Once cleared, delivery is planned around access at the new address, with parking or access permits arranged where local rules require them. Pets need an ISO microchip, rabies vaccination, RNATT titre test at an approved laboratory 180+ days before travel, an import permit, then a 10-day minimum at Mickleham PEQ.

Pricing

Three drivers shape the bill. Sea distance and the Singapore tranship add freight and dwell time. Biosecurity treatments — heat treatment, methyl bromide reservations, occasional wharf wash-down — are quoted as a likely provision, not a guess. Port and quarantine fees are charged per shipment, and DAFF charges inspection by time. Every quote itemises freight, customs, biosecurity, port fees, road delivery and packing; transit insurance (all-risk cover) is available, with the terms confirmed in your quote.

Skilled-migrant family

Mirdif to Sydney’s inner west

A family of four moving from Mirdif, with the children starting at a Newtown primary school at the beginning of term. The coordinator plans the move around the family’s flight and the term date, books the household by sea to Port Botany, and has the BBQ and garden tools cleaned at the Dubai pack, ready for DAFF’s biosecurity assessment. Our destination partner handles clearance and unpacks at the new home in the inner west.

Professional couple

Downtown Dubai to Melbourne South Yarra

Two senior professionals on an employer-sponsored transfer, sending part of the household by air and the rest by sea to bridge the lease handover. The coordinator splits the consignment — priority air to MEL for working items, the sea shipment following to the Port of Melbourne — and prepares the B534 paperwork for both. Street parking for the delivery truck is arranged in advance, because the new Victorian terrace sits on a narrow street.

Returning Australian

Abu Dhabi to Brisbane with corporate sponsorship

A Brisbane-born finance director returning after fourteen years in the UAE on a corporate-sponsored move, with a small art collection and a kitted home gym. The coordinator arranges specialist crating for the art, and our destination partner books an inspection time in Brisbane if DAFF selects the shipment. Furniture and household goods owned and used for 12 months before leaving can clear free of duty and GST under the UPE concession.

Frequently asked questions — Australia corridor

What is the Unaccompanied Personal Effects regime and do I qualify?

UPE is the ABF concession that lets you bring used furniture and household goods in free of duty and GST, provided you have owned and used them for 12 months before leaving for Australia. You must be 18 or over and arriving from outside Australia, the goods must be yours and for your own use, and the shipment must be booked before you arrive in Australia — goods arranged after you arrive are not covered. No permanent-residency condition applies to household goods. The B534 Statement carries the entitlement. We draft it from the inventory before lodgement.

What is the biosecurity inspection actually like?

DAFF assesses every B534 and packing list, then decides what to inspect. If your shipment is selected, our destination partner books an inspection time and unpacks for the officer, who cross-checks the inventory and pulls attention items for a closer look — outdoor furniture, BBQs, garden tools, golf bags, bicycles. Numbered boxes and a clear packing list cut inspection time and cost; goods that have not been cleaned can be referred for treatment.

How much does heat treatment or methyl bromide fumigation cost?

It depends on volume and which items are referred, and the cost falls to the owner. Heat treatment of a single wooden piece usually costs less than fumigating a part-container of outdoor goods. We quote a likely provision in the original budget.

Do I really need an asbestos test for an older car?

Possibly. Australia bans asbestos imports, and older brake pads, clutches and gaskets sometimes contained it, so an older vehicle may need to be checked or sampled. If asbestos is found, it has to be removed or the vehicle re-exported. We confirm what applies to your vehicle before it ships.

How does the pet pathway work?

The UAE is a Group 3 country. Pets need an ISO microchip, rabies vaccination, an RNATT titre test at an approved lab 180+ days before travel, an import permit, and a minimum 10-day stay at Mickleham PEQ. The timeline starts well before the container books.

What cannot be brought?

Soil-contaminated items, live plants, fresh fruit and vegetables, unidentified seeds (including spices), certain wood species, ivory, products with animal residue, and firearms without correct permits. Rice, lentils, chickpeas and whole cumin seed are banned from unaccompanied effects, even in sealed packs. Most tobacco, including shisha tobacco, cannot be imported without an ABF permit arranged before arrival. Alcohol and anything reading as commercial new stock fall outside the duty-free concession. Some lithium-battery items route as dangerous goods.

What does ABF need from me?

Signed B534 completed in English, passport biodata page and Australian visa where you hold one, the packing inventory, the bill of lading or air waybill, and receipts for anything owned less than 12 months. You also need to show the shipment is linked to your move, for example with a ticket or work contract, and ABF may ask for photos or a statutory declaration. For pets and vehicles, the relevant import permits.

Will I pay duty on anything?

Furniture and household goods owned and used for 12 months before you leave clear free of duty and GST under UPE. Newer goods, alcohol and commercial stock are assessed separately — travellers’ duty-free allowances do not cover a shipment — and most tobacco cannot be imported without an ABF permit. Vehicles fall outside UPE and attract duty and GST on a calculated basis.

Can you handle the Australian end too?

Yes, through our destination partner in Australia, who handles clearance, biosecurity attendance, road haulage and unpacking at Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Fremantle or Adelaide. Your UAE coordinator stays your single point of contact until the last carton.

How far out should I book?

Four to six weeks before dispatch is comfortable for a full container, and gives room for biosecurity preparation and the B534. We can move faster on air. Pets and vehicles need longer: the 180-day RNATT wait means a pet move starts six months or more ahead, and a vehicle needs its import approval before it ships.
