When UAE families ask what is most involved about a move to Slovenia, it is rarely the furniture. The family pet and the car are the two things that generate the most questions — because both are subject to EU entry requirements that are specific, fixed and not always obvious from the outside. Seemleius coordinates both as a managed part of your move on the UAE–Slovenia corridor. The earlier you raise them, the better the outcome.

Pet relocation to Slovenia

Slovenia applies the European Union’s rules for pets entering from a third country, and for animals travelling from the UAE — a third country in EU terminology — those rules are detailed and strictly enforced. They are not unreasonable, but they are time-sensitive: each step must be completed in the correct order, and some steps carry fixed waiting periods that cannot be shortened. Miss a step or get the sequence wrong, and the animal cannot enter at the Slovenian border.

The core sequence for a dog or cat travelling from the UAE to Slovenia is: an ISO-compliant microchip first, then a primary rabies vaccination administered after the chip has been implanted — never before — with entry to the EU allowed no sooner than 21 days after a first vaccination. As the UAE is on the EU’s list of third countries for pet travel, a rabies antibody blood test is not required. An EU animal health certificate is then issued by an official veterinarian in the UAE within ten days of travel, and the animal must enter the European Union through a designated travellers’ point of entry where the documentation is checked.

Once in Slovenia, dogs must be registered and the rabies vaccination kept current under Slovenian veterinary rules, and registration is recorded in the central animal database. We brief you on the local registration steps that apply at your destination so nothing is missed after arrival.

  • UAE microchip and rabies vaccination timed with full lead time, leaving room for the 21-day wait after a first vaccination
  • EU animal health certificate issued in the UAE within ten days of departure
  • Approved air route from DXB into Slovenia, or via another EU travellers’ point of entry, with handlers who understand EU animal welfare standards
  • Guidance on Slovenian dog registration and keeping the rabies vaccination valid after arrival

Vehicle shipping to Slovenia

Shipping a car from the UAE to Slovenia involves considerably more than the freight. There is UAE export documentation, EU import treatment, a Slovenian technical inspection and the registration process — and the costs attached to each. We handle the logistics chain and make sure the documentation is in order, and we are straightforward from the outset about the duty, inspection and registration costs so there are no surprises on arrival.

How the vehicle is treated by Slovenian customs depends on whether it qualifies for transfer-of-residence relief. A car owned and used by the owner for a qualifying period before the move — generally at least six months — and which the owner will continue to use in Slovenia, can usually be imported under transfer-of-residence relief and exempted from EU import duty and from the 22% Slovenian import VAT, with the vehicle declared alongside the household effects. Where the relief does not apply, customs duty and import VAT are payable on the assessed customs value of the car.

After customs clearance, a vehicle that did not originally meet EU type approval must pass an individual technical inspection at an authorised Slovenian testing station, which confirms it meets European technical, emissions and safety standards. Original UAE-specification headlights, lighting and emissions equipment frequently need adjustment or replacement to pass. The vehicle is then registered: motor vehicle tax is assessed, compulsory third-party insurance is arranged, and Slovenian licence plates are issued. A car registered in Slovenia and used on the motorway network also needs a valid electronic vignette (e-vinjeta), and we point this out in advance, so the car can be made fully road-legal after it arrives.

  • Container freight, or roll-on roll-off where a sailing is available, booked into the Port of Koper from a departure port outside the Strait of Hormuz
  • UAE export and Slovenian import documentation prepared — including the transfer-of-residence relief application for the vehicle where the relief applies
  • Individual technical inspection coordinated after clearance, with guidance on the modifications UAE-spec vehicles typically need
  • Slovenian registration, motor vehicle tax, insurance and the e-vinjeta set out in advance, so the car can be made road-legal after it arrives

How it works

  1. Tell us what is moving. The pet (species, breed, size) and / or the vehicle (make, model, year, current emissions specification), plus your anticipated move dates.
  2. Map the requirements. We set out the EU entry sequence for the pet and the Slovenian import, inspection and registration sequence for the vehicle — including the lead times and waiting periods that cannot be compressed.
  3. Coordinate the journeys. Pet travel via an approved DXB route and vehicle freight by sea are booked and aligned with your household shipment so arrivals are sequenced sensibly.
  4. Keep you informed. Your coordinator updates you through each stage — UAE vet appointments, Slovenian customs clearance, the technical inspection, the registration — and you can ask for an update whenever you need one.

The pet and vehicle elements are best planned alongside the rest of the move; the overview of moving from the UAE to Slovenia shows how they fit the wider corridor. EU pet entry in particular rewards early action — the 21-day wait after a first rabies vaccination fixes the earliest possible travel date, and there is no mechanism to shorten it. Get in touch as soon as you have a move date and we will map out the full timeline for both.

Common questions about this move

Anything specific to your situation? A specialist for this corridor is happy to help.

Contact us
How long does a move to Slovenia take?

It depends on the freight mode, the volume and the routing, which your coordinator confirms at the survey along with a realistic window — sea freight is the economical choice for a full household, air freight is faster for essentials.

Do you handle customs at both ends?

Yes, with our destination partner: we prepare the export paperwork in Dubai, and clearance at the destination is handled by our partner there. Some countries ask you to apply for duty relief yourself — your coordinator tells you what to file and when.

Is my shipment insured in transit?

Transit insurance (all-risk cover) is available. Your coordinator explains the cover options when quoting, and the terms are confirmed in your quote.

How far ahead should I book?

Two to four weeks is comfortable for most international moves, but we regularly handle urgent relocations. The earlier you reach out, the more flexibility you have on dates and freight space.

Will I have one point of contact?

Yes — one coordinator in Dubai looks after your move from the survey to delivery and works with our destination partner, so you are never passed between companies.
