Of all the elements of a move to Qatar, pets and vehicles tend to generate the most anxiety — not because the corridor is long, but because the requirements for both are specific and the consequences of getting them wrong are significant. A pet held at the border, or a vehicle with incorrect import documentation, is a problem that does not get solved quickly. Seemleius coordinates both as a planned part of your move, not an afterthought managed separately.

Pets: what Qatar requires

Qatar’s Animal Resources Department sets the health and documentation requirements for animals entering the country, and these differ by species. Dogs and cats are the most common, and the standard requirements include an ISO-compliant microchip implanted before the rabies vaccination, a valid rabies vaccination certificate (with the vaccine administered at least 30 days but not more than 12 months prior to travel), a current health certificate from an accredited veterinarian, and an import permit issued in advance by the Animal Resources Department for arrival into Doha. Certain breeds are restricted or prohibited; we confirm the current list against your specific pet before booking. Pets normally travel by air into Hamad International Airport rather than by road.

We coordinate with specialist pet-handling partners who manage the animal welfare side of the journey — IATA-compliant crates, climate control, in-flight care. Your pet’s travel is aligned with your household move timeline so the two arrive in Doha without either waiting unnecessarily for the other.

  • Guidance on Qatar’s current health, vaccination and documentation requirements for your specific pet, including the import permit timeline
  • Coordination with specialist pet handlers experienced in Gulf animal transport and IATA crate requirements
  • Journey planning timed to your household move, with Qatar import compliance confirmed in advance of the booking
  • Arrival handling at Hamad International — collection from the cargo terminal and onward delivery to your Doha home

Vehicles: the Doha delivery

Shipping a car or motorcycle to Qatar involves more than putting it on a truck. It requires UAE export documentation, a Qatar import declaration via Al Nadeeb, customs duty calculated on the vehicle’s assessed value where it applies, and compliance with Qatar’s vehicle registration requirements once it arrives. Cars are not covered by Qatar’s customs exemption for used household goods, even for residents moving permanently — we confirm the duty position with current customs guidance rather than assumption.

The other practical question is GCC specification. Non-GCC vehicles (for example a US-spec car previously imported into the UAE) may face additional inspection or modification requirements at the Qatar Traffic Department, while GCC-spec vehicles are the simpler case. We flag this at quote stage so there are no surprises after arrival.

For vehicles entering Qatar, the condition record we prepare at the UAE end is important — it establishes the pre-shipment state of the vehicle clearly so there is no ambiguity if a question arises at the Qatar customs stage. The vehicle also typically needs transit plates from the UAE side to permit onward movement until Qatar registration is issued.

  • Vehicle freight arranged — road transport in an enclosed carrier via the Salwa border, or container shipment to Hamad Port for higher-value or non-driveable vehicles when sailings are available
  • UAE export documentation and Qatar import declaration prepared, with our destination partner lodging it in Qatar and the expected duty explained transparently
  • Customs duty guidance before shipment, with a detailed pre-shipment condition record for the vehicle
  • Onward delivery to your Doha address and guidance on next steps with the Qatar Ministry of Interior for registration (Istimara), often handled through the Metrash app

Vehicle registration: the post-arrival picture

Once the vehicle clears Qatar customs, the registration sequence runs through the Ministry of Interior — a technical inspection, insurance from a Qatari insurer, plate issuance and the Istimara registration card. Many of these steps are now self-service via the Ministry of Interior’s Metrash 2 app. Our job ends at delivery and document handover; the registration itself is the owner’s task, but we prepare you with the right paperwork so the registration runs smoothly.

Planning ahead matters

Both pets and vehicles reward early engagement. Qatar’s pet import permits need to be applied for before the animal travels, and rabies vaccination timing creates a 30-day floor on departure dates. Vehicle documentation needs to be in place before the freight is booked, and GCC-spec questions are best resolved at quote stage. The earlier you tell us what is moving alongside your household, the more time we have to get every element right. Last-minute arrangements on either front are manageable but more stressful than they need to be.

How it works

  1. Tell us what is moving. Pet species, breed and size, and / or vehicle make, model, year and specification, plus your planned move dates to Doha.
  2. Map the requirements. We confirm Qatar’s current entry requirements for each, identify any that need early action, and flag any breed or specification issues up front.
  3. Coordinate both journeys. Pet travel via Hamad International and vehicle freight via road or sea are booked and aligned with your household shipment so everything arrives in step.
  4. Confirm Doha arrival. You are updated through each stage of both journeys right through to delivery, with handover documentation ready for Qatar vehicle registration and pet release.

Tell us early and we will plan both around your move dates. Get in touch and we will walk through what each one needs.

Common questions about this move

Anything specific to your situation? A specialist for this corridor is happy to help.

Contact us
How long does a move to Qatar take?

It depends on the freight mode, the volume and the routing, which your coordinator confirms at the survey along with a realistic window — sea freight is the economical choice for a full household, air freight is faster for essentials.

Do you handle customs at both ends?

Yes, with our destination partner: we prepare the export paperwork in Dubai, and clearance at the destination is handled by our partner there. Some countries ask you to apply for duty relief yourself — your coordinator tells you what to file and when.

Is my shipment insured in transit?

Transit insurance (all-risk cover) is available. Your coordinator explains the cover options when quoting, and the terms are confirmed in your quote.

How far ahead should I book?

Two to four weeks is comfortable for most international moves, but we regularly handle urgent relocations. The earlier you reach out, the more flexibility you have on dates and freight space.

Will I have one point of contact?

Yes — one coordinator in Dubai looks after your move from the survey to delivery and works with our destination partner, so you are never passed between companies.
