Freight routes and customs into Cameroon

With the Strait of Hormuz closed to commercial shipping since February 2026, sea freight is trucked to a port outside the strait, such as Khor Fakkan or Fujairah on the UAE’s east coast or Sohar in Oman, and sails from there to the Port of Douala, Cameroon’s principal commercial port, or to the newer deep-water Port of Kribi, sometimes via a transhipment hub; routing and dates are confirmed at the survey. From the coast, goods move inland by road to Yaoundé and other cities. Air freight from DXB routes into Douala International Airport (DLA) or Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport, generally via a regional hub, and is the faster option for urgent or smaller consignments.

Customs clearance is handled by the Direction Générale des Douanes (Cameroon Customs). Returning nationals and new residents may claim relief on used personal and household effects under transfer-of-residence provisions, subject to a detailed inventory, passport, residence or work documentation and evidence of prior ownership. We prepare the declaration and supporting paperwork in the UAE so the file is complete and consistent on arrival.
