Since February 2026 the Strait of Hormuz has been closed to commercial shipping, so containers go by road to a port outside it, such as Khor Fakkan or Fujairah on the UAE’s east coast or Sohar in Oman, and sail from there into an Adriatic port — most commonly Ploče in neighbouring Croatia, the natural gateway for Bosnian cargo — before the overland leg to Sarajevo and beyond. Routing and dates depend on sailings and the road leg, and are confirmed at your survey. Air freight from DXB routes via a European hub into Sarajevo International Airport and suits documents and time-critical cargo.

Customs is administered by the Indirect Taxation Authority of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Incoming residents and returning nationals can import used personal and household effects with relief under transfer-of-residence provisions, subject to a valued inventory and proof of prior ownership and use abroad. Because cargo usually transits Croatia, an EU member, transit documentation must also be correct. We prepare everything before the container sails so the shipment is not held at the border.
