Kosovo is landlocked, so sea freight is routed to a regional Adriatic or Aegean port — typically Durrës in Albania or Thessaloniki in Greece — and then carried overland by road into Kosovo. This means transit times that combine the sea leg with a road leg, and it suits full-household volumes where cost is the priority. The sea leg now starts outside the Strait of Hormuz, closed to commercial shipping since February 2026, at a port such as Khor Fakkan or Fujairah on the UAE’s east coast or Sohar in Oman, and routing and dates are confirmed at the survey. Air freight from DXB into Pristina International Airport is the faster option, generally clearing within days, and suits smaller or time-sensitive shipments.

Kosovo Customs administers the country’s import rules. New residents and returning citizens may import used personal effects and household goods with relief from customs duty and import VAT, provided the goods were owned and used before the move and the inventory, ownership evidence and residence documentation are in order. We prepare the detailed packing list and supporting paperwork in advance so the shipment clears as a transfer of residence.
