Moving your home? International Movers from Dubai to the UK, Door to Door · Removal Company from Dubai to London, Door to Door

Since the Strait of Hormuz closed to commercial shipping in February 2026, a container for the UK goes by road to a port outside the strait, such as Khor Fakkan or Fujairah on the UAE’s east coast or Sohar in Oman, and sails from there to Felixstowe or another UK port. Routing and dates are confirmed at the survey, and once the sailing is booked we hand you the vessel name, the booking reference and a projected ETA. Whether you are taking a family to Surrey, moving a professional to Manchester or Edinburgh, or sending stock to the Midlands, this is a route we know well.

The UK corridor carries a familiar mix — a family swapping an Arabian Ranches villa for a London school catchment, a banker moving from Abu Dhabi to the City, a UAE firm consolidating stock off the M6. What keeps a UK move calm is getting the HMRC side right before the box ever sails, so that is where our planning starts.

Why move with Seemleius

ToR1 secured before you sail

Transfer of Residence relief has to be approved before your goods are shipped, or the VAT and duty saving is at risk. You apply online to HMRC on form ToR1; we help you prepare it and time the freight so your reference number is in place before anything sails.

CDS declarations right first time

HMRC retired CHIEF and moved import declarations onto the Customs Declaration Service. A mismatch between inventory and declared value holds the container, so our destination partner in the UK pre-validates the CDS entry first.

One coordinator, start to finish

UAE export, sea or air booking, UK import and final delivery sit with one named coordinator, so nothing falls between vendors and one person always knows where your shipment stands.

How your move works

  1. Survey and brief

A home survey across Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah, or a video walk-through, with volume measured in cubic metres and anything that changes customs treatment flagged early. Sea and air options come back priced.

  2. Documentation before sail

You apply online to HMRC on form ToR1, with your passport photo page, proof of your UK address and of your address abroad, and a list of your belongings; we help you prepare it. Commercial flows get an EORI number and HS-coded invoices.

  3. Export pack and dispatch

Export-standard packing from your UAE address, ISPM-15 timber for any crating, then a booked rotation to Felixstowe, Southampton or London Gateway, or air from DXB to Heathrow, Stansted or East Midlands.

  4. Clearance and delivery

Our destination partner lodges the CDS entry with your ToR reference, devans the container and delivers to your door anywhere in the UK, then unpacks, reassembles the larger pieces and clears the debris.

The UAE–UK corridor in detail

Sea ports, air routes and modes

Most shipments travel by sea. Felixstowe, one of Britain’s busiest container ports, is the default for London, the South East and the Midlands; Southampton suits the South and West; London Gateway gives fast access into the capital; and Tilbury handles conventional and project cargo. Routing and sailing dates are confirmed at the survey; after arrival, allow a few days for devanning and clearance, then one to two days of road delivery. Air is the faster alternative — usually four to six days from Dubai to Heathrow, Stansted or East Midlands — but priced for urgency, so the choice is sea for volume or air for speed.

HMRC, the Customs Declaration Service and ToR1

UK import declarations now run on the Customs Declaration Service, which replaced the long-serving CHIEF system, and the entry data must match the paperwork. For personal effects the relief that matters is Transfer of Residence, on form ToR1, approved by HMRC before the goods are shipped. Its unique reference number lets used belongings enter free of import VAT and duty for anyone making the UK their main home after at least twelve consecutive months abroad, provided the goods have been owned six months or more. You make the application online, and we help you prepare it at the documentation stage, not the dockside.

Restricted goods, pets and vehicles

Some categories sit outside a normal household clearance, and we flag them at the survey rather than the border. New goods bought in the run-up to the move, and any alcohol or tobacco, attract duty and VAT. Firearms and certain bladed articles are prohibited or need specific authority, plants or untreated wood can trigger phytosanitary checks, and commercial stock is declared on its own invoice. Pets move under DEFRA rules — an ISO-standard microchip, a rabies vaccination given after the chip, a Great Britain health certificate from an official UAE vet and, for dogs, a tapeworm treatment one to five days before arrival — usually flying into Heathrow for checks at the Animal Reception Centre via a specialist pet shipper. For a UAE car, HMRC must be told through NOVA within 14 days of arrival, and the car needs vehicle approval (usually an Individual Vehicle Approval test), an MOT if it is over three years old, and DVLA registration before it is driven, with headlight beam pattern, speedometer units and emissions the common checkpoints.

What drives the cost

Every quote itemises its levers: volume in cubic metres, any sea-to-air split, custom crates, port handling at the departure port, UK terminal handling, and onward road delivery, which rises with distance from the port — lowest into London, higher to the North, Edinburgh and Belfast. We do not quote a flat rate sight unseen.

Household and family

Arabian Ranches to a house in Surrey

A family of five moving a four-bedroom villa, with the start of the school year in Guildford setting the deadline. The coordinator works back from the term date and helps the family prepare the ToR1 early, so the reference number is in place before the container sails; our destination partner then delivers and unpacks in Surrey.

Corporate relocation

Abu Dhabi to a City of London role

A senior finance professional on a fixed start date, needing a working setup in London before the household follows. The coordinator splits the move — priority air into Heathrow for laptops and essentials, a sea container to London Gateway for the rest, both under one ToR authorisation with consistent inventory references.

Commercial cargo

Trading stock to a Midlands unit

A UAE distributor consolidating stock into a leased warehouse near the M6, declared as a commercial import. The coordinator makes sure the importer has an EORI number and HS-coded invoices, our destination partner lodges the CDS entry before the container reaches Felixstowe, and the haulage is timed to when the warehouse is ready.

Frequently asked questions — UK corridor

What is ToR1 and what paperwork does it need?

ToR1 is the Transfer of Residence application that grants relief from import VAT and duty on used household goods. You apply online to HMRC before the goods are shipped, with your passport photo page, proof of your UK address and of your address abroad, and a list of items (no values needed); we can help you prepare it.

Will I have to pay customs duty on my belongings?

Used personal effects under an approved ToR application enter free of import VAT and duty. Duty and VAT apply to new goods, alcohol, tobacco and commercial stock, which are separated at the survey.

Can I bring my pet to the UK?

Yes, under DEFRA rules: an ISO-standard microchip, a rabies vaccination after the chip, a Great Britain health certificate from an official UAE vet and, for dogs, a tapeworm treatment one to five days before arrival. Most pets fly into Heathrow for checks at the Animal Reception Centre with a specialist pet shipper.

What is involved in shipping my car?

Our destination partner makes the import declaration, HMRC is told through NOVA within 14 days of arrival, and the car needs vehicle approval (usually an Individual Vehicle Approval test), an MOT if it is over three years old, and DVLA registration before you drive it, with headlights, speedometer units and emissions the usual checkpoints. We give a frank view at the survey on whether it is worth it.

Should I choose sea or air?

Sea is the cost-effective mode for a full household where a longer transit is acceptable, with routing and dates confirmed at the survey; air is faster, usually four to six days from Dubai, but priced for urgency, so it suits smaller, time-critical consignments. Many moves use a sea container with a small air component.

Is my shipment insured?

Transit insurance (all-risk cover) is available against the values you declare, with the terms confirmed in your quote. Cover is based on declared replacement value; high-value items such as art, jewellery and watches need itemising separately; and a claim has a defined window from delivery.

What cannot be shipped?

Firearms and certain bladed articles are prohibited or need specific authority, plants and untreated timber can trigger phytosanitary checks, and alcohol and tobacco are dutiable in any quantity, as are new, boxed electronics.

How long does the whole move take?

For a sea move, routing and dates are confirmed at the survey; after arrival, allow a few days for clearance, then one to two days of road delivery. Air usually compresses the freight leg to four to six days.

Who handles the UK end?

Our destination partner in the UK handles the CDS declaration, devanning and delivery, while the coordinator who set up your UAE export stays your single point of contact — one person owns the move from the first quote to the final signature. Booking four to six weeks ahead helps.
