Since the Strait of Hormuz closed to commercial shipping in February 2026, containers go by road to a port outside the strait, such as Khor Fakkan or Fujairah on the UAE’s east coast or Sohar in Oman, and are typically transhipped through a regional hub such as Singapore before the connecting service into Díli — a multi-leg journey whose routing and dates are confirmed at the survey. Air freight from DXB routes via a Southeast Asian connection into Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport in Díli and is the faster option for urgent or higher-value consignments. Customs is administered by the Customs Authority of Timor-Leste. Arriving residents and returning nationals may import used personal effects and household goods with relief from duty where the goods are demonstrably personal property, supported by a residence or work visa and a detailed inventory; we assemble that file before departure.
