Freight routes and customs into China

Since the Strait of Hormuz closed to commercial shipping in February 2026, containers go by road to a port outside the strait, such as Khor Fakkan or Fujairah on the UAE’s east coast or Sohar in Oman, and sail from there to China’s major container ports — Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Qingdao among them — on direct or transhipped services, with routing and dates confirmed at the survey. From the port of entry, goods move onward by road or rail to the final destination city. Air freight from DXB offers frequent direct links into Beijing, Shanghai (PVG) and Guangzhou and is the faster choice for urgent or smaller consignments.

Customs clearance is handled by the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC). New residents and returning nationals may import used personal and household effects with relief from duty, subject to a detailed inventory, passport, visa or residence permit and customs registration of the consignee. China applies its import rules precisely, so the documentation must be accurate. We prepare the declaration in the UAE so the file is consistent when the shipment reaches Chinese customs.
