Machinery moving from the UAE to the Netherlands runs on Rotterdam time. A press shipped from the UAE to Europoort that arrives the day before the millwrights mobilise, a CNC line that clears Douane on the morning slot and rolls into Brainport Eindhoven before the evening shift — the corridor rewards operators who treat the move as a programme. Seemleius runs the UAE–NL lane as engineering work: pre-move survey at the UAE site, receiving-site checks with our destination partner, Dutch customs filing arranged ahead of arrival, road permits prepared with RDW.
What moves on the UAE–NL lane
The corridor carries metal-cutting and forming kit for tier-one suppliers around Eindhoven and Helmond, process plant for the Rotterdam petrochemical cluster, the Amsterdam canal-zone food and beverage works and Chemelot at Sittard-Geleen, and data-centre infrastructure for the AMS metropolitan footprint — racks, in-row coolers, UPS frames and modular gensets. Consignments range from single machine tools of a few tonnes to heavy-lift transformers, vessel sections and OEM-built modules.
Pre-move engineering at the UAE end
An engineer walks the origin floor, and the destination footprint is checked with our destination partner. The survey records floor loading at every rest point, doorway and corridor dimensions with 50 mm skating clearance, overhead obstructions and the lift point at the loading dock. Free-zone tenants — JAFZA, DAFZA, Dubai Industrial City, KIZAD — get the landlord approval and gate-pass raised inside the programme. The method statement covers disassembly, rigging, crating (ISPM-15 heat-treated timber for EU entry) and reverse build order at the Dutch site.
UAE export documentation
Dubai Customs classification is fixed before cargo moves — chapter 84 carries most production machinery, chapter 85 the electrical apparatus and transformers, and HS misclassification is a common cause of a clearance hold. Where the asset originated under a free-zone import, the original import paperwork is reconciled against the export declaration. SIRA or DEWA sign-off is staged where the equipment leaves a regulated premises.
Freight choices and Rotterdam transit
Container shipping suits most machine tools once dismantled. Flat-rack and open-top units handle over-height presses; OOG sailings on chartered heavy-lift vessels carry transformers and reactor sections. With the Strait of Hormuz closed to commercial shipping since February 2026, cargo now goes by road to a port outside the strait, such as Khor Fakkan or Fujairah on the UAE’s east coast or Sohar in Oman, before sailing for Rotterdam Europoort; routing and dates are confirmed at the survey. Amsterdam Ports is the alternate where the receiver sits closer to Schiphol or the food cluster. Where the programme will not allow sea, an Antonov AN-124 or 747F charter from DXB or DWC into Schiphol covers oversized airfreight.
Equipment and methods
Hydraulic jacking & skating
Toe-jacks rated to 25 tonnes, machine skates and Hilman rollers under the load points captured on the UAE survey — the standard mechanism where neither origin nor receiving site has overhead lift.
Heavy-lift mobile cranes
Mobile telescopic cranes from 50 to 500 tonnes coordinated at Europoort or the receiving plant for quayside lift, roof-opening installs and yard sets — lift plan signed by the appointed person.
Export-grade crating
ISPM-15 heat-treated cases with VCI barrier wrap, desiccant sachets and shock-watch indicators — engineered to survive a North Sea winter sailing.
SPMT & modular transport
Self-propelled modular trailers for heavy or wide loads on the road leg from Rotterdam to Brainport, Chemelot or the canal zone, with the escort and route the RDW permit sets.
Dutch customs and over-dimension routing
Import declarations are filed through DMS to Douane against the EU TARIC code and the chapter 84/85 HS line, with Importer of Record cover arranged where the consignee is not yet established. CE marking and the declaration of conformity are verified at the desk review — refurbished UAE machinery often needs an upgrade pathway worked through before energisation. Over-dimension road movements run under an RDW permit, with the escort and route it sets; the North Sea Canal lock window at IJmuiden is held in the programme where the destination sits canal-side.
Insurance and condition reporting
Transit insurance (all-risk cover) is available, with the terms confirmed in your quote. Pre-move condition reports carry photo evidence: existing wear, panel marks, calibration sticker dates, fluid levels and serial numbers. Calibration certificates are preserved so the OEM engineer can verify state on arrival before recommissioning.
An operational scenario
A precision components manufacturer consolidating a Dubai workshop into a tier-one site near Eindhoven moves nine assets: four machining centres, two grinders, a wire EDM, a CMM and an assembly cell. The UAE survey identifies two machines above standard container height and sets a flat-rack booking with 40’ HC containers for the rest. The boxes go by road to the departure port and sail for Europoort, where customs is released against the pre-lodged declaration; OEM engineers then re-level and recommission on site.
How the corridor runs
- Survey and site checks. UAE origin walked by an engineer and Dutch receiver checked with our destination partner; floor loading, route, lift points and disassembly captured; landlord, free-zone and RDW notifications flagged.
- Documentation lock. Dubai Customs HS confirmed, gate-pass and SIRA/DEWA sign-offs raised; DMS pre-lodgement prepared for Douane; ISPM-15 crating booked.
- Sail and clear. Lift onto ocean transport at the departure port (or air charter ex DXB/DWC), sailing tracked, customs released at Rotterdam or Amsterdam against the pre-lodged file.
- Road, set-down, recommissioning. Road leg to the receiver, with an RDW permit and escort where an over-dimension load needs them, set-down on the marked footprint, re-levelling to OEM tolerance and handover for energisation.
Why the UAE–NL move works with us
One project with engineering input at the UAE survey, a Dutch customs broker engaged before sailing, and the same project manager owning the programme from disconnect at origin to recommissioning at Brainport, Chemelot or the canal zone. Common questions about this move
Anything specific to your situation? A specialist for this corridor is happy to help.
Contact usHow long does a move to the Netherlands take?
It depends on the freight mode, the volume and the routing, which your coordinator confirms at the survey along with a realistic window — sea freight is the economical choice for a full household, air freight is faster for essentials.
Do you handle customs at both ends?
Yes, with our destination partner: we prepare the export paperwork in Dubai, and clearance at the destination is handled by our partner there. Some countries ask you to apply for duty relief yourself — your coordinator tells you what to file and when.
Is my shipment insured in transit?
Transit insurance (all-risk cover) is available. Your coordinator explains the cover options when quoting, and the terms are confirmed in your quote.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to four weeks is comfortable for most international moves, but we regularly handle urgent relocations. The earlier you reach out, the more flexibility you have on dates and freight space.
Will I have one point of contact?
Yes — one coordinator in Dubai looks after your move from the survey to delivery and works with our destination partner, so you are never passed between companies.
