Kiribati is one of the most remote destinations on the UAE relocation map — a Pacific island nation spread across a vast stretch of ocean, with its main population centred on the Tarawa atoll. Moving here from the UAE is entirely achievable, but it is a corridor defined by distance and limited direct connectivity, which makes careful planning essential. That planning is exactly what Seemleius provides on the Dubai–Kiribati route.

The UAE–Kiribati route carries a smaller and more specialised flow of moves — professionals joining government, development and fisheries projects, staff posted by international organisations, and families relocating for work. Because Kiribati sits well outside the major shipping lanes, every shipment is routed with care, and one coordinator in Dubai stays with it from the UAE departure until our destination partner completes the island delivery.

Freight routes and Kiribati customs

Kiribati has no direct deep-sea service from the Gulf, and since the Strait of Hormuz closed to commercial shipping in February 2026, UAE containers travel by road to a port outside the strait, such as Khor Fakkan or Fujairah on the UAE’s east coast or Sohar in Oman. From there, sea freight is routed through a regional transhipment hub — typically a major Pacific or Australasian port such as Suva, Auckland or Brisbane — before a feeder vessel carries the consignment on to the Port of Betio on Tarawa. This multi-leg routing means long and variable transit times, with routing and dates confirmed at the survey, so it suits full-household and commercial volumes where the timeline allows. Air freight from DXB is also routed via a regional gateway and onward connecting flights to Bonriki International Airport on Tarawa, and is the faster option for smaller or urgent shipments.

Kiribati Customs administers the country’s import rules. Arriving residents may import used personal effects and household goods, and relief from import duty is generally available for genuine used goods owned before the move, provided the inventory and the residence or work documentation are in order. We prepare the paperwork thoroughly and confirm routing in advance so the shipment clears smoothly.

Used-goods relief and import documentation prepared accurately, with inventory that matches the shipment.

Island delivery

Onward delivery covers South Tarawa — Betio, Bairiki and Bikenibeu — and the main island settlements.

One coordinator

A single point of contact owns your move from the UAE survey to the Kiribati delivery.

Who moves this route

The Dubai–Kiribati corridor is a specialised one. Household moves are part of the picture — individuals and families relocating their homes to Tarawa, often timed around contract postings. Business and office moves arise where organisations set up local operations and need staff, equipment and records moved. We also handle commercial freight, including equipment and supplies for development and infrastructure projects.

Where we deliver

We deliver to Kiribati’s main population centres, concentrated on South Tarawa:

  • South Tarawa — the densely populated island chain and the country’s administrative and commercial heart
  • Betio — the main port settlement and the entry point for sea freight
  • Bairiki — the seat of government on Tarawa
  • Bikenibeu — a major residential and education settlement on the atoll
  • Bonriki — home to the international airport on the eastern end of Tarawa

How your move works

  1. Survey and quote. We assess volume and contents and return a clear, itemised quote with the routing explained.
  2. Document in advance. Dates are confirmed, transhipment space is booked, and the Kiribati customs paperwork is prepared before the shipment leaves the UAE.
  3. Pack and ship. Our crew packs to export standard, builds a full inventory and dispatches by sea or air.
  4. Clear and deliver. Our destination partner handles import clearance at Betio and coordinates delivery, unpacking and reassembly.

Whether you are moving a family home, an office or commercial freight from the UAE to Kiribati, your move is handled from start to finish by one coordinator. Request a quote and we will map out the routing, timeline and customs steps.
