Canada is one of the more straightforward destinations for bringing a pet, by international standards — but “more straightforward” is not the same as simple, and vehicles are another matter: most cars from the UAE cannot be imported at all. The consequences of getting the requirements wrong are not minor. A pet refused entry or a vehicle held in customs storage is an expensive and distressing problem. Seemleius coordinates both as a structured part of your Canada move, not an afterthought.
Bringing your pet to Canada
Canada’s pet import requirements sit with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and depend on the species and age of the animal. For dogs and cats coming from the UAE, the core requirements are well understood: a valid rabies vaccination certificate signed by a licensed veterinarian, a recent health certificate, and microchip identification consistent with the documentation. For puppies under three months, age-based exemptions apply but the paperwork must still match the animal. Canada does not operate a post-arrival quarantine for properly documented pets from most countries — which means the documentation genuinely does all the work, and it needs to be right.
Breed restrictions vary at the provincial and municipal level rather than federally. Ontario has historically restricted certain bull-breed types under provincial legislation, and several cities — Winnipeg among them — maintain breed-specific by-laws. If you are bringing a dog whose breed is borderline, we check the destination’s rules before the booking is firm so you are not arriving with an animal that cannot legally live at the address. We coordinate with specialist pet-handling partners who know the CFIA entry process and align the animal’s travel with your household shipment.
- CFIA-compliant rabies vaccination and health certificate guidance for Canada entry
- Pet-appropriate travel arrangements, including IATA-compliant carriers
- Coordination with specialist pet handlers who prioritise animal welfare throughout
- Provincial and municipal breed-restriction checks for your destination
- Alignment of pet arrival timing with your own travel and household delivery
Shipping your vehicle to Canada
Shipping a car from the UAE to Canada involves sea freight, UAE export documentation, Canadian import compliance and provincial registration — but the first question is whether the car can be imported at all. Most UAE-spec cars cannot, because they do not meet Canadian standards. Transport Canada admits a vehicle from outside the US and Mexico if it is at least 15 years old and not a bus, so a UAE car under 15 years old is generally not admissible and it pays to confirm this before anything is booked.
Provincial registration sits on top of that. Each province sets its own tax treatment for imported used vehicles, its own safety or mechanical inspection and its own registration steps, and the rules for older and collector vehicles vary, so we check the destination province before committing the booking.
We manage the freight, the UAE export paperwork and the Canadian import documentation, and provide guidance on the import and provincial registration steps you will need to take on arrival. A detailed pre-shipment condition report is prepared with photographs so you have a clear record before the vehicle is collected for shipping.
- Sea freight booked once the vehicle is confirmed admissible — in a container, or roll-on/roll-off where a sailing is available
- UAE export and Canadian import documentation prepared
- Transport Canada admissibility check before anything is booked
- Pre-shipment condition report with photographs for your records
- Province-specific registration and tax guidance for Ontario, BC, Alberta, Quebec and beyond
Planning both together
- Tell us what is moving. Pet species, size and breed; vehicle make, model, year and VIN — plus your Canadian arrival date and destination province.
- Map the requirements. We work out the CFIA entry requirements for the animal and, first of all, whether Transport Canada will admit the vehicle, with the provincial overlay.
- Coordinate the journeys. Pet travel and vehicle freight are booked and aligned with your household shipment so everything converges at the Canadian end without long gaps.
- Confirm arrival. You are kept informed at each stage, from departure from the UAE to CBSA clearance and delivery in Canada.
Aligning pet and vehicle arrivals with your household
The most common avoidable problem on this corridor is timing: a pet that lands in Toronto a week before any human in the family does, or a vehicle that reaches the Port of Halifax while the new resident is still in the UAE waiting for the household shipment to sail. Neither situation is a disaster, but both create avoidable storage, kennelling or boarding costs and a stretched first week on the ground. We plan the journeys together — you, the pets, the vehicle, the household sea freight — so the sequence makes sense for your family and your budget. In practice that usually means the household container leaves first, you land in Canada with the pet before the container arrives, declaring the goods to follow in person at your first point of arrival, and the vehicle is sequenced to arrive once you have an address that can register and insure it.
Both pets and vehicles benefit from early planning — Canada’s requirements are knowable, but they take time to prepare correctly. Get in touch and we will walk you through what each one needs.

Common questions about this move
Anything specific to your situation? A specialist for this corridor is happy to help.
Contact usHow long does a move to Canada take?
It depends on the freight mode, the volume and the routing, which your coordinator confirms at the survey along with a realistic window — sea freight is the economical choice for a full household, air freight is faster for essentials.
Do you handle customs at both ends?
Yes, with our destination partner: we prepare the export paperwork in Dubai, and clearance at the destination is handled by our partner there. Some countries ask you to apply for duty relief yourself — your coordinator tells you what to file and when.
Is my shipment insured in transit?
Transit insurance (all-risk cover) is available. Your coordinator explains the cover options when quoting, and the terms are confirmed in your quote.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to four weeks is comfortable for most international moves, but we regularly handle urgent relocations. The earlier you reach out, the more flexibility you have on dates and freight space.
Will I have one point of contact?
Yes — one coordinator in Dubai looks after your move from the survey to delivery and works with our destination partner, so you are never passed between companies.
