Employers across the automotive, engineering, shared-services and technology sectors relocate staff from the UAE to Hungary. The difficulty is never any single move; it is making dozens of them consistent, compliant and manageable as a programme. Seemleius employee relocation to Hungary is built for that scale, with the documentation discipline that NAV customs requires.
Why Hungary moves need programme thinking
Hungary adds layers that many other destinations do not. Work and residence permits are a matter for the employer, the employee and the Hungarian immigration authorities, and we plan around the dates they confirm rather than advise on them. On the move side, the landlocked routing means the shipment crosses Europe by sea and then inland, so timing has to be planned, not assumed. If that preparation differs every time — different vendors, different documentation, different levels of care — the inconsistency shows up as delays, cost variance and avoidable employee stress. We build it consistently from the start, timed to each employee’s confirmed arrival so the shipment lands in the right window.
The address card drives the shipment timeline
Hungary requires new residents to register their place of residence with the local district office, which issues the lakcímkártya — the official address card. Alongside the tax number (adóazonosító jel), the address card is the document that unlocks almost everything else: a bank account, healthcare registration, utility contracts and school enrolment. It is issued once a permanent home is secured and the address registered.
This has direct consequences for how the household shipment is timed. If an employee’s shipment arrives before they have a confirmed permanent address, there is nowhere to deliver it — and on a route where the sea leg is followed by an inland leg, an early arrival means costly storage. If it arrives too late, the employee lives out of suitcases longer than necessary. We coordinate the sea or air freight out of the UAE so it lands shortly after the employee has secured housing and registered the address — not before, and not weeks after.
What the programme covers
Policy-aligned moves
Every relocation to Hungary runs to your mobility policy — volume caps, entitlements, approvals — without requiring you to police each one.
Customs handled for each employee
NAV import documentation and the transfer-of-residence relief application prepared accurately for every move — the employee does not navigate it and neither does HR.
Employee support
The relocating person has one coordinator from UAE survey to Hungarian delivery — reducing stress and the questions that would otherwise come back to HR.
Consistent records
Quotes, inventories and invoices in a consistent format across every move, ready for finance and mobility reporting.
Schools and the language question
Employees moving with children find that the Hungarian state school system teaches in Hungarian, which makes it a demanding option for a child arriving mid-assignment without the language. International schools — offering English-language, IB or other curricula — are concentrated in Budapest, with a smaller number of options in Debrecen and the larger regional cities, and they are the usual choice for employees on fixed-term assignments. Places can be limited, so early application matters, and enrolment generally requires the address card. We flag this in the planning conversation so the housing search and the school search move together.
Tax, healthcare and the first month
The first month in Hungary is procedural by design. The address registration produces the lakcímkártya; the tax number is issued; the employer registers the employee for social insurance and the state health system (administered through the TAJ social-security number); and a local bank account is opened. We brief each relocating employee on the sequence and what to have ready — the documents the local registration office asks for — so their first week is about settling in, not chasing paperwork.
How the programme works
- Align the programme. We map to your mobility policy once — entitlements, documentation standards, reporting format — so every Hungary move runs the same way.
- Initiate a move. HR refers the employee; we survey in the UAE, prepare the NAV documentation, time the shipment to the employee’s start date and housing, and return a policy-checked quote.
- Manage the relocation. Packing, sea via a port outside the Strait of Hormuz or air via DXB, EU import clearance and the inland leg into Hungary are coordinated for the employee, with HR updated at each milestone.
- Report. You receive consistent documentation and status reporting across every move — ready for finance, audit and mobility programme review.
Whether you move a handful of employees a year to Hungary or run a sustained programme for a global engineering organisation, the service scales without losing consistency. The wider corridor is set out in our guide to moving from the UAE to Hungary. Talk to us about your mobility policy and we will set the programme up properly.

Common questions about this move
Anything specific to your situation? A specialist for this corridor is happy to help.
Contact usHow long does a move to Hungary take?
It depends on the freight mode, the volume and the routing, which your coordinator confirms at the survey along with a realistic window — sea freight is the economical choice for a full household, air freight is faster for essentials.
Do you handle customs at both ends?
Yes, with our destination partner: we prepare the export paperwork in Dubai, and clearance at the destination is handled by our partner there. Some countries ask you to apply for duty relief yourself — your coordinator tells you what to file and when.
Is my shipment insured in transit?
Transit insurance (all-risk cover) is available. Your coordinator explains the cover options when quoting, and the terms are confirmed in your quote.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to four weeks is comfortable for most international moves, but we regularly handle urgent relocations. The earlier you reach out, the more flexibility you have on dates and freight space.
Will I have one point of contact?
Yes — one coordinator in Dubai looks after your move from the survey to delivery and works with our destination partner, so you are never passed between companies.
